I've compared the photo with the ones I've taken on my own PV, and I find them quite similar, so my guess is that it is a stock tunnel.

I doubt it came from a Volvo P1800 ES...
Just check this image:

But I think you might be on the right track.
Perhaps the Volvo 140?




Update:
I've uploaded an image of my gear shifter.
