Bio Deisel 200

nyone out there running biodiesel in there 240?
Not me, I use straight veg oil in my 740

What does the conversion involve? How is it done?
Rubber seals and hoses should be replaced with Viton or nylon.

What are some good resources to read up on the conversion process?
I don't know,I feel BioDiesel is not worth the effort/toxic materiels/risk of making it wrong/equipment required in my case, and I haven't messed with it. If I did, I would only buy it from a Petroleum company, because they are the competent chemists.

I am trying to decide between a Volvo and a Mercedes Benz, any suggestions on which makes a better canidate?
The MBZ pump may be slightly more Bio-Friendly, but the conversion is pretty similar, some of the MBZ hoses are the nylon type. Volvos can use VW nylon hoses.

The D24 straight 6 found in the 240 had some major lubrication defects from the factory.

The D24 non turbo isn't nearly as cool as the D24T, which usualy seems to make 190k-230k Miles.

Mercedes diesel on the other hand has legendary reliability.

Yes the engines run a long time...they outlast the car 2 or 3 :1.
I am not fond of the Benz diesels because:
they don't drive nearly as well as a 740
the seats are crap
the power locks are problematic, and often necessitate shutting off the motor from under the hood
The auto trans is crap, and need replacement every 100K, costing as much as 2 or 3 running Volvo diesels.
The good Benzes dont come with a stick ever.
Ill take my Volvo disintegrating plastic bits and sorry electrical system any day. If you change the timing belts and head gaskets every onece in a while, the Volvo motor is just fine, and wille asily outrun most MBZ

The MBZ 300SDL on the other hand is a different critter entirely, Way outperforms my Volvo, although the aluminum crossflow head is said not to last as long as the 5 cyl, these will still acellerate uphill at 90 MPH!

If you don't have mechanical skills, get the Benz unless you already have a great relationship with a WV diesel mechanic.
