Your measurements are very close to bang on my "is it OK?" chart:

Battery nominal 12.6v
Small load 12.2-2.4
Charging 13.8 -14.2

If you run the battery down a bit and then do the test, and the voltage rises to 14v while charging, I agree with the others that the alternator is OK.

By the way, you never mentioned your original symptoms, just the experiment.
