The code is caused by the blower motor siezing (over-current code) thus clearing the code only can't fix the siezed blower motor, which I'm assuming is the cause based on the description given. If one's in doubt, check for a 12v circuit (+ and -, both wires) at the blower motor connector, unplugged first.

As for the part, although surely the same motor might be used in other cars, the one purchased at a Volvo dealer will be an exact, easy install replacement where another part might need to be modified in some way to fit. Some might not mind going the modified route but others might prefer an easier bolt in replacement, done in just minutes once the old part is removed.
