Do your car a favor when it gets hot outside. Slide the blower to zero and then start the car. Roll down all 4 windows to let the super hot air out. After you start driving, slide the blower switch to 3 or middle position, roll the windows up, and make sure the fresh air vent on the center dash is closed.
The above will help keep the compressor from overheating and shutting off.
Last week, the sun was bright with low humidity, the temp in the shade was 70-72F. A beautiful day. My black car was parked facing south. I put a meat thermometer on the dash close to the windshield. Result? 150F!! I opened all 4 doors and the rear hatch. After 1 minute, the temp was at 140F. 2 more minutes and the temp was 130F. I started the car with the fan in position 3 and AC on without any problems.
I will check my dash temp tomorrow. It is supposed to be 99F with a dew point close to 80.
