Yea but It doesn't matter to say initially they were cheaper and post that lower price on the message boards when the cost now is $650 + shipping + tax up front $700 then after you mail your old unit back it drops back to $600. To say initially it used to cost less and put a lower number on your post is just going to give people false impression of a lower price. Actually its expensive and good if you have the money and plan to keep your car a long time. If you just want to get it back on the road for a couple more years and sell it, then buying a yellow label unit for $150 is a good deal.
I think they should just sell the resistive wiper components and let people replace themselves. I'm sure the component cost is less than $50 each. How hard can it be to take off 4 screws and a plastic cover and change out such a simple piece? That variable resistor (potentiometer/rheostat) technology is so old and commonplace I bet it costs them about $1 to manufacture them.
