Considering S40-V40 2001

I am considering a buy or lease of the s40 or v40. My current vehicle is a land rover. I like the safety, size, and mileage of the s40. I know it's based on the Mitsubishi Charisma and the reviews I have read are quite good.

What about the power? Any huge quaility or maintenance issues?

My bro. is a Ford Employee so I get A Plan (invoice=1%ofMSRP) which makes this a good buy.

Any thoughts on this car area greatly appreciated.
