Service rep or mechanic? The service reps don't know diddly, mechanics are usually good.

No way should a normal person be able to grab the bar and wiggle it. It is supposed to absorb the engine torque with little movement.

The front mount under the crank is difficult to check, but should never be loose.

New and improved control arms? The 850/70 control arms usually last well past 150K. The after market last 30-50K.

Can you get a second opinion from a Volvo indie?
