just went through three tows, new belt and two new alternators when my mechanic informed me that he could not explain why the battary would not charge. Took my 97 850 to a local autoelectric shop who new immediately that the problem was a BURNT OUT WARNING LIGHT BULB within the instrument panel. No bulb, no current to the battery. No warning either. Be wary of that bulb. It,s not just a bulb. Back to my mechanic who stated that wweas a common set-up years ago. Electric shop told me not only was circuit to bulb bad wiring but the whole wiring loom to the instrument panel was questionable. Charged enough to leave the shop after repair, but needed slow charge next day. Car has had no good road runs for a while. OK now.
Auto electric by-passed the would be warning light in the instrument panel and installed a new wired circuit to a new lamp located in the dash..Al, because of a light bulb.
I love my Volvo.
