Climate Control (lack of) V70-XC70 1998

I suspect that the problem I have is due to failing to detect the cabin temperature correctly. I'm told that there is a little fan that runs to pull a sample of air from the cabin onto a sensor. The cars diagnostics indicate that there may be a fault with this fan. Does anybody know where this fan is and how I can get to it?
It draws the air in from a small grill next to the Climate Control.
