How to resurrect a 142E? 140-160 1971

George

I have discovered a bit of a flaw with your advice that all 4 injectors should click when you work the throttle with the enging not running.

They actually click two by two.

I had "serviced" all the injectors by soaking in petrol and doing the push pull thing on the injector tips (with plastic cap pulled off so I could see enough needle to hold onto). I was confident that the injectors would work so I connected them all up and tried the throttle test. Only 1 & 3 clicked. I then tried the electrical leads for 1 & 3 on 2 & 4 and found that the injectors were OK. Without knowing too much about how the injectors are timed, I figured that they are only supposed to squirt 2 at a time. I touched the crank to change the rotation and then 2 & 4 worked and 1 & 3 didn't. I tired it several times and could find no rotational position of the engine where all 4 worked at the same time.

So before you go stripping things down to find out why two of your injectors aren't working - try turning the engine a little between throttle tests.

As you may have read with my post from last night - the net result is that the engine now runs like a trooper. Not bad for a revival after 17 years. Thanks for all your help.
