Hey guys,
I had posted my problem and testing results in several threads at different times over on Turbobricks, and I had forgotten I hadn't posted it here.
Since it was rather long, I'll give the condensed version here.
Mom called me to say the car, 91 240 automatic, 200k+ miles (dont know for sure) was hard to start/idle and kept stalling. This was immediate - car drove fine, she parked in, on restart the festivities begin. No CEL at first.
Car was bucking/stumbling at idle, and would stall out on first start. If you kept your foot on the gas for 30 seconds, you could get it to idle, but it would still buck and stumble. Finally, CEL comes on. Only code I got out of it was 1-1-3.
After the CEL comes on and you drive it for a bit(and I suppose the ECU is compensating), the car will idle, but it idles high and smooth (~1500 rpm hot). Cold, it idles around 900 rpm. Car drives fine at part/full throttle. Off-throttle, the car bucks sometimes. No idea what mileage the car is getting, the ODO is busted. If you pull the battery, CEL goes out and we're back to the beginning, it wont idle until it warms up, then bucks and stumbles until the CEL comes on, then gradually starts idling faster and faster. Car hesitates off-idle.
Here's what I've done:
Pulled manifold, cleaned everything (TB/IAC/AMM/Flame Trap/Breather box) and put it all back with new seals. No major vacuum leaks.
Pulled injectors, sent for pro cleaning at Cruzin Performance.
Tested FPR with my air compressor. 35 psi = nothing, 45 psi = fuel all over my workbench. No fuel in the vac line.
New intake manifold gasket.
New ECT sensor.
Replaced IAC motor with a spare from junkyard that I cleaned beforehand. No change.
Car has a recently new fuel filter.
Cleaned ground point between body and vale cover.
I've been searching the board for 1-1-3 for some time now and read a lot of good old threads. Some have solutions, others not. One thread I read in its entirety is here between Art B and JR. Really good info, some, but not all, of the symptoms match to mine. http://www.brickboard.com/RWD/volvo/1095515/220/240/260/280/cel_113_232_help.html
His problem ended up being the AMM.
2 startup questions: What FI system does my car have? I'm guessing by the year its LH2.4. Is that correct? Where would I confirm?
Second, what does 1-1-3 mean? I've read all of the literature I could find on this site and others. Some say "Fault in fuel injectors", while others say "too rich/lean at idle". Which is it?
I'd like to test a spare AMM, but my interest in digging through junkyards for busted, non-returnable electronics is dwindling. I would LOVE to borrow a good AMM to test if anyone is in the South Florida area that wouldn't mind helping me out.
At this point, the running rich + high idle after compensation screams vac leak to me, but I certainly can't find one.
Thanks a bunch guys! Theres more info to the thread, I just didn't want to write a novel. I can fill in any questions if you'd like.
