What finally fixed the no start, can you tell?
Congratulations you are well on your way to getting this done, let me suggest while cleaning the IAC valve you also clean the throttle body and all associated vacuum hoses and fittings.
Make sure all the fittings for the vacuum hoses are open so air will flow.
Get a throttle body gasket, flame trap, 2 feet of vacuum hose, and a can of throttle body cleaner.
Remove the throttle body use an old tooth brush and Q-tips to aid in cleaning the throttle body. The only caution here is to keep the throttle body cleaner out of the switch on the throttle body.
Once the IAC valve is clean test the valve by connecting it to 12 volts from the battery to see if the vane moves.
This should be done as regular maintenance once every year or two.
