Thanks, matt82dl! I love my old Volvos, so making an investment in these tools would be a good one, and someone else on the board did tell me that some stores provide loaner tools, too.
Today, I'm going to clean the throttle body and replace the flame trap. I'm hoping that will help the idle. Interesting that you say that you have a similar idle thing going on with your wagon. Yesterday I cleaned the AIC, and it was very, very dirty, but it didn't change the idle at all. I'm sure it make the car a bit happier though! You've got a lot of good miles on your car, and I'm hoping to get the same with this one. I wonder if the idle thing is an issue all around with 940s?
After the throttle body, I'm going to move on to the water pump, which from what I hear would be a good time to replace the timing belt.
You all provide such good encouragement that is starting to overtake all the fear that becomes ingrained in the novice that only shops can properly maintain a car.
