Over the past couple of months, I've been working a little at a time to swap a used engine into a '91 240 that I bought last spring. The used engine is of unknown condition and was turning over just fine while it was stored in my garage. Well, I got the engine into the car and noticed today that it is locked up. I put a breaker bar on the end of a socket on the crank pulley bolt and can't get it to budge. When I put the engine into the car a few weeks ago it turned over just fine by hand. How could it have locked up this soon? There's no sign of moisture in the oil.I checked to see if anything was caught around the flywheel, but it's all clear.
So, I'm thinking of pulling the engine and rebuilding it. I also have a B230 FT engine available. Maybe swap that into this 240 with an M46 to replace the AW 71?
Thanks,
Dave
