All right, my 1990 740 is stuck in a parking lot. I came back from a trip, turned the key, all the lights go on, but there is nothing when I turn the key that last 1/8". I hear the fuel pump and i hear a click from some relay near the fuses and the battery is putting out 12.6 volts at rest. The weather sucks right now, but I'm going to check things out a little further tomorrow.... What should I include on my laundry list of things-to-try-before-towing?

And I will also note, I had this issue happen Once on the first start the other day... I shifted it to drive and back to park and it all of a sudden it started up when I turned the key- I tried doing the same thing today- shifted through all the gears while trying to start, but it wouldn't start, so

Here's what I have planned so far:

1. Neutral safety switch- I'm going to bypass it. Any words of wisdom on pulling the center console? Is it difficult?

2. I already checked the fuses and they look pretty good.

3. A new bolt for my positive battery terminal. I cleaned up everything that's on there now, but the bolt and nuts are pretty damn rusty.

4. A hammer to hit the starter

5. Dielectric grease and sandpaper to clean the contacts on the solenoid- not sure what they look like right now.

6. A female connector and piece of wire to run from starter solenoid to the + on the battery.

Annnnd. Besides that, no idea.


Any thoughts, team brickboard?
