S90 for a new driver? S90-V90 1998

Hey everyone,
We are looking to buy a first car for my younger sister who is just turning 15. I myself got a '93 850 a couple years ago (and love it) and my parents wanted to get another Volvo for the safety and everything else we love about them. Well, we were looking at 940's and the like from the early to mid-nineties when a family friend bought a new truck and wanted to sell his Volvo. He doesnt want to go through the hassle of selling to a stranger and really wants us to have the car.

It is a 1998 S90 sedan (83,000 miles) that is pretty much loaded, in good shape, and has been pretty well maintained. It aint perfect but its in plenty nice condition. Normally we wouldnt have looked at anything that new but he is willing to go as low as $6000... It is hard to pass that up.

What we are concerned about is that we dont know anything about the S90s. We like the way it drives but you are the ones that have the most first hand experience. What kind of issues do these cars develope? Any weak points we should know about? Big expenses that lie on the horizon? Is it too powerful or too large a car for a 15 year old first driver (and shes only like... 5'4")?

Last, if not the S90, what other car (preferably Volvo) should we be looking at, hopefully in the range of $5000-$6000?

Thanks in advance guys, I really appreciate any help in this issue.
