Getting to hate this engine B20B 140-160 1970

The in-line filter was changed @ 120,000 and doesn't look plugged. Didn't think to change it since I normally get 15,000 out of them with no problems. I will change it and see if it makes the difference.

I did find an intake leak which is why I had the manifold re-surfaced. Thought I was on to something with that...guess not.

I've tried adjusting the carbs by getting the highest idle, then highest idle plus 1/3 turn richer to no avail. Something is screwy though. My '72 has the same carb setup and the jets are about 0.060" below the carb bridge. On this one the jets are down around 0.250"! Granted it idles smooth, but that seems really low.

The timing is set to the factory spec. I've tried other settings, vacuum connected / disconnected but nothing has been as smooth as the factory setting.
Minor pinking when hot and pulling a heavy load up a grade.
