Getting to hate this engine B20B 140-160 1970

You may have already done this but have you changed the butterflies to solid ones ie without the springloaded air bypass (not sure if this is the right word for this). I gather the spring weakens and allows too much air through. The solid ones overcome this.
Just a thought.
