I think I'm convinced to carry on with maintaining the current engine and drivetrain. The engine in mine is young yet as far as mileage goes and with some spiffying up it'll be around for a while.
Earlier today I had the pleasure of meeting our fellow brickboarder jmenacker and I got to see his daily driver 122. He had some good suggestions based on what he's done to his, and it looks like mine's not too far off the mark. Methinks I'll need to use quite a bit less of the budget than what I had originally allocated, saving it for a rainy day as matt b put it. :)
