A persistant crankcase pressure problem (about 1/2 PSI measured from the oil cap at idle) has persisted after removing and clearing the oil trap and the 2 hoses coming from it. The oil trap was empty and I could easily blow air through it, as were the 2 hoses. Regardless, I filled them with carb cleaner, blasted the box and reamed the hoses anyway.
A local volvo mechanic told me the oil trap (and all the hoses) must be replaced anyway and that being able to blow air through it does not mean it is functional.
Piston blowby is another cause of crankcase pressure but the compression test was as follows: 130, 125, 145, 135 PSI. Not so bad, I thought and the car runs smoothly, just drips oil from various places.
Opinions on the oil trap issue and crankcase pressure?
What is considered high crankcase pressure?
