Like Lucid says, get rid of the strainer inside the tank and replace it with a see-through filter in the line from the tank to the pump, after you've gotten rid of as much of the junk you are bound to find inside the tank. Even so, there'll still be debris coming out and ending up in the filter. I had to change mine twice, but now it has only a minimal amount of sediment in it.
