Yup. Just maybe, the last mechanic they had, who did know how, retired or went elsewhere. Or management just doesn't believe that anyone should be maintaining a 15-20 year old car.

In any case their original remarks to you indicate that they're not "on board" with you in maintaining the vehicle. Accordingly, someone else will have to maintain it.
