I'd bet he has a very bottom clutch.
I used a longer bolt and put 2 standard nuts under the pivot and a washer against the aluminum and snugged everything up together. It may depend on how you modded the clutch fork, but that's a starting point.
One you install the tranny and and bolt it up, the clutch arm should return to within 1/2" of the rear side of the bellhousing hole.
I don't think you can install the tranny subsequent to the bellhousing any easier than the whole assembly.
