Hmmmmmm.....Now there's an idea! Well, I priced replacing the PCV system with my mechanic today (I neither have the time nor want to do the job). He says 2-3 hours labour + the PCV system parts. The part prices from Volvo are 2-3 times the same parts at FCP, so I guess I'll have to order them there. Need to get a few things for the 855 anyway. Come to think of it, I'm pretty sure the 855's PCV valve/nipple is heated... Had to clean it out in the fall to fix a major oil problem after my buddy got a smokin deal on the car (we bought it from him not long after). Someone had replaced all the PCV components EXCEPT the valve/nipple, which was the problem.... otherwise the car was very well maintained. Anyway, I'm hopeing the 960's PCV will be ok in the morning (it's -12C tonight). It seemed fine this afternoon, I drove the car for a good hour in two trips. All I noticed was the faint smell of residual oil. It's supposed to warm up in the next few days, so that should solve my problem for now and I should get the parts in the next week or two. The really cold weather should be ending soon, but it'll be back next winter! I wish I could see what the inside of that PCV box looks like, then I'd have a better understanding of how it works and how moisture may be causing problems...
