Thanks for the information. I have only the one (currently dismantled) 240 and limited experience with Bosch FI.
I have pondered the "why" for so many changes to basically the same system over the years. I suppose it has something to do with trying to stay up with changing emissions rules worldwide. Regardless of why, there seems to be at least a dozen different variations of the LH system plus the Rex/Regina.
You mentioned something that makes me wonder about a cross connection or miswire:
"Based on temperature clues from the ECT and an ECU input on the starter solenoid terminal (key position III)..."
What if the cold start signal was being sent to the ECU at all times, rather than only at start? Even though the car quit one day and hasn't run since, it was at a dealership that declared a functional ECU defective. Maybe the same technician crossconnected or miswired the cold start circuit? If I am reading the prints correctly PIN 4 of the ECU should have voltage only during START, correct? Randy, have you checked that?
