There have been lots of good posts on this subject, but one thing to not overlook is to have the battery tested. I recently purchased a '66 122 that was very hard to start. She "turned over" but would not "start". I tested the battery and it was bad - would not hold a charge. I replaced the battery and the engine turned over much faster. Life has been good ever since.
