Burning TABs, replacing with poly. Is it REALLY that easy? 200

So like I mentioned in other threads, our Volvo for various reasons is on a shoestring budget, and is more of an emergency get to work car than a daily driver. The suspension is pretty much shot and I have very little time to work on it, so if I do work on it, I do little things that offer a big bang for the buck.

I was reading up on this homebrew TAB tool to swap out the RTABs, as I thought for the $20 or so the tabs cost, it'd be worth it to replace those. Also, the rear end is sagging pretty bad. Then, I came across a few posts talking about the IPD poly bushings, and how you can just burn out the rubber core and reuse the metal sleeve without pressing it out.

Sounds legit to me, but I have to ask - has anyone tried this? Is it really that easy? I mean, I know the poly bushings are more money, but we're talking about turning a nightmare of a job into something that looks like it can be done in 30 minutes - I'll buy the poly for that.

By easy, I realize that burning out the core aint exactly cake, but I've handled a torch before and am a pretty decent wrench turner. I also realize that some people can get the bushings out in 30 minutes a side, but I'm NEVER that lucky. My presses always get stuck, break, continually press off-center causing the whole thing to come apart, etc.

If I can burn out the core, pop in the poly, and be done, sign me up!
