Some people have apparently used a hole saw to zip out 95% of the rubber in a few seconds. I could easily see that working if you had a drill strong enough that would fit in the space, and from there you could use small burst of heat to remove the rubber bonded to the shell, or probably get the rest out with a wire wheel.
A UK forum has a photo tutorial about it...I'll see if I can find it.
