89 245 random stalling problem 200 1989

The intermittent bevavior points to fuel pump relay or the ECU, but if you replaced it should be the fuel pump relay or RPM sensor on the bellhousing. When it happens, remove the panel under the glovebox and put your hand on the fuel pump relay. If it's hot as a pistol, that's your problem. Take it out, bang it on the ground a few times, put it back and it should start.

Most often when the rpm sensor goes, the car dies, including if the insulation goes. If it has the yellow band on the cable, replace it anyway.

The ecu you have is for a 940 w/EGR. I don't believe they are interchangable with the 240 w/5-speed non-egr car. You should keep an eye out for a 951 which is a direct factory replacement for the 561 you have. I used a 936 from a 940 n/a w/o egr to replace a 561, but the maps are different, and it is set-up for torque and an autobox and very lean running.
