As for the driveshaft and flanges... the issues are that your old driveshaft may or may not be the correct length.. seems some are, some aren't.
and flanges... the small flange for a J overdrive might be hard to find. I know they are out there, as I've got one in my 122.. but most J equipped cars had the bigger driveshaft. Agreed.. if you can stick with the small, you'll be better off.
I've really never messed with any of that stuff though.. when I did my auto->M410 (actually I did M41 first, then changed to a M410 when my M41 gave up) conversion in my '70 wagon, I swapped everything from the fan to the differential cover, using all the bigger driveshaft parts from my donor car.
As for the switch.. a simple on/off toggle switch is what came stock (the switch opposite the turn signal stalk.. up is off, down is on). If you use a momentary (pulse?) switch (as found in an early 1800s), then you have to have a relay in there somewhere...
