You may indeed need to lean it out but that's best done by jet changes. If you can get the car on a rolling road, run by someone who knows what they're doing, and get a good set of mixture readings, CO etc, from idle to full throttle, you'll be able to see what's happening at various rev bands. It will cost a few bucks but better than taking pot luck and buying a lot of jets that don't work. If you're willing to strip the carb enough to make a list of all the jet numbers, there might be others here who've done the same and can suggest changes. With the engine nice and hot you can probably get a rough check done with a "sniffer" up the exhaust. Check from idle upwards at 500 or 1000 rev intervals but have the engine running at the test revs for a while before noting the reading, so that the exhaust system is clear of the previous mixture.
Write the numbers down. Go through the tests 3 times to get an average.
