If that valve cover ground strap fixed it, I think you may still have a potential problem. Like Chuck says, that small ground was meant to reduce radio interference emanating from the injector wiring.

I've heard of that small strap glowing red-hot, from trying carrying starter current when the normal Battery ground (to block and body) is not up to snuff.
