From another perspective...

If you are contemplating having the driveshaft at a shop for checking, just have them replace the u-joints. I long ago gave up wrestling with them and have been really happy since.

They have all the bits necessary to fix any driveshaft and can make a new one from scratch if yours is too boogered to save (or make a heavy-duty one if you so desire... or one longer or shorter or...).

Just my two-cents.
