Yes, then the rotary compressor would be an upgrade. From your initial posting, it appeared that you wanted to swap out the whole system. The two systems are totally different. If you want a new compressor, install one to your old system, although you'll have to have new lines made up. My point was that if you want to keep your old evaporator, it won't mate up to the under-hood components of the newer system.
Honestly, if you have access to a newer car, I would swap out the whole enchilada. The systems are so different that mixing and matching would be difficult.
