It simply is not the impression that I got from reading a lot of posts here and on other boards.
I've read several posts from people who have only swapped in the rotary compressor along with the bracket and a new power steering pump (and the hoses they got from the newer system, or had some hoses made).
I don't think I need a bigger evap as I do not want to go to r134a, so the current one should be efficient enough for an R12 replacement. I don't want to have to take the whole dash out again at this point and I'm fine with the rotary knob control for the A/C. In addition, the car I have accessed to at the junkyard is in a condition that really doesn't facilitate accessing the dash area. If I had the cars side by side at my disposal, I might consider it.
My goal is to get the car cooled down with A/C as my system is not working at all, but rather than fixing and getting an old inefficient system to work, and finding the car under powered as it is already, I'd rather swap in a newer compressor, and keep the rest (under the dash) the same as much as possible, at least for now.
