Look at the city that you live in. Calculate the distances. Then consider the design of the traffic control systems, and of course bootlenecks and such. How far would you have to travel, at what speed would you have to travel in order to gain an appreciable advantage over the people behind you?

How many times have you passed someone whose parked in a left turn lane, waiting for the light to turn green, someone who only moments earlier went around you on the right, and then cut you off?

For transportation purposes, today, speed gains next to nothing. Except cardiovascular problems.

In my opinion the swedes got it right. Just like Henry ford had it right in the beginning. Build tough, simple, pratical cars that last and last and last.

But now, if you're talking about the race track, well thats a whole 'nother' story.
