Well thanks so much for all the input folks...the winner is:

The lovely brake booster! After I towed the car home this morning I checked the vacuum lines and sure enough there was brake fluid in them. After disconnecting and bypassing the booster, changing oil, filter and cleaning the carb my 122 "Murray" runs great! Took a little bit to stop smoking out of the tailpipe but it runs great! Thanks again everyone...
