Was 1971 a good year for the 164?

You want to talk about under-tired... You should take a XK120 jag for a drive... Now thats a real hoot around the bends on 6.00-16 bias ply tube tires.

As for the 164... Go for any '72 or earlier with a manual box. Overdrive is nice if you do highway miles, but the engines don't mind the revs. Of course, some folks like the later styling. Thats a personal problem as far as I'm concerned. Joking...I like both, but I like the earlier ones lots more.

Carbs/FI...thats a personal matter too. I like carbs for the simplicity, and roadside repairability. But...the injection sure is nice for cold starts, and consistant running. As has been said, 164s ain't as sporty feeling as teh 4 bangers. But they sure do pull nicely....

If I had my choice in 164s though, it would be the earliest I could possibly find. I'm a bit envious of George's '69.
