Was 1971 a good year for the 164?

The only 164 I owned I ever really enjoyed was a very early non power steering carburettor car. It'd been owned by Michelin to test tyres with. It was very powerful, never figured out whether or not it had been breathed on. It came with a set of Michelin assymetric XAS tyres, they suited that 164 perfectly.

Unfortunately it had a leaky full lenghth Webasto fabric sunroof in it and eventually went terminally rotten.

It actually only part belonged to me for a few days. We found it whilst at university and three of us raided our cash point machines to buy it. A friend of mine really wanted it and he paid us back a few days later. I did lots of mileage in it though.

Over the years I've fallen out of love with 164's, but if I came across another early '69 non power steering car I might just be tempted.

Regards

Pete
