One of the main things I use my radar detector for is getting a heads up when emergency vechicles are near or if I am coming up on an accident site. It has been very useful this winter. They aren't solely used to avoid tickets anymore! Newer ones detect weather alerts, emergency vehicles and cops. I wouldn't be so quick to ticket everybody that has one.
