If you plan to stick with the original coil and your distributor doesn't have shaft wobble, the only benefit of electronic ignition is that you don't have to replace the points ever again. There's vanishingly little performance difference if the original setup is still working as designed -- it's a maintainability upgrade only.
I have electronic ignitions in both my "enhanced performance" Volvos including coil upgrades (Crane/Bosch Blue in the 122, Lumenition in the 1800), but my "non-enhanced" VW campmobile still has points, and I have no plans to change that one over.
