Electronic ignition, yes or no. 120-130

John;

I agree with you totally...the electronic modules are a good fix when you have a worn out dist., but I've always kept mine cleaned and well lubed, so as far as I was concerned, just installing an electronic module to get rid of the points was not for me...hell, I got >50k miles out of one set of points not too long ago, so it would take a looooooong time and a looooooot of miles using $10 points to justify a $100 electronic upgrade...so my additude towards the electronic ign upgrades has always been: "Why bother...what will it buy me?"

...but a hall-effect or optical sensor, knock sensing, closed loop timing adjusting which could painlessly be added to a B18/20 (maybe even using the oe ign coil)...now THAT'S an upgrade that I'd be REAL interested in!!!...because I could bring the advance to maximum (say 20 deg, or even higher) instead of a conservative 16 degs., and not be too concerned about pinging...the module would "back the advance off" when the sensor "heard" knocking. Now that's a worthwhile upgrade...one which replaces the points, AND which optimizes the performance!

Please post details of the system which does this!

Cheers
