Engine flush 200 1987

I am contemplating doing an engine flush -- you know, pouring Redex (or similar) into the plug holes to sit overnight, and then watch the black clouds following the next start-up. After an oil-change, the engine's interior is supposed to be a lot cleaner.

Are there any risks involved? I am thinking deposits coming off unevenly around valves/seats, resulting in leaks. Or other horrors.

Thanks as always,
Erling.
