65S with a J OD 1800

I suspect a bad bearing somewhere, either in the drive-line support or in the transmission itself. "Singing" could be a dry bearing, is the tranny/od still full? Bad bearings usually "rumble" or "growl" as the races and balls/rollers slowly destruct. It could still be the u-joints. The only way to really tell is to remove the shaft and check for free-play and motion. Jerky, rough or stiff joints are bad even if they are not sloppy.
Length should not be a problem. The non-od cars were just fine, after all.

Mike!
