Hi-Octane? 120-130 1967

I think the 140 has a vacuum retard. If I read your post correctly, it probably has a centrifugal advance to deal with increased piston speed (John's explanation above)and the vacuum retard interferes with the advance at low speed when the throttle is closed. The open throttle then allows pressure to go to atmospheric, there is no vacuum, no retard and the centrifugal advance is allowed to function. Is that it, sort of?
