Engine teardown 444-544

I really should know better than to talk metal. Of course I learn a lot with George around!

I must apologize as I was using a term that was used on me. I respected the user so thought it was correct. My bad.

Insofar as bolt/stud stretch is concerned George is 100%, that is what should happen. But bolts can be under spec, have small faults, etc. that teh additional stress of a couple thousand RPM can bring out.

If they were "stretching" even in the elastic zone, you would see fret marks on the cap/rod mating surfaces (ditto for broken, insufficiently tightened, etc.)

If the wear on the bearing ... never mind, you can't tell once it's wiped. OTOH, was the bearing more wiped on one side that the other? Definite for bent rod (although hammered keeper is prety definite too).

Mike!
