Source of timing advance 700 1987

That is all handled by the EZ117k control unit. It has a throttle switch, engine speed sensor, and a knock sensor. Apparently that is all it needs to base it's ignition advance and retard off of. You would think they would have figured the engine load signal from the MAF in there but I guess it really is not necessary on a system as simple as that. You know what is really strange to look at is the later cars with the LH2.4 system that have the crank position sensor in the top of the bell housing. You can put a timing light on them and crank the distributor as far as it will go in either direction and the timing does not change. There is nothing inside the distributor except a rotor but you still think it would change the timing, but it does not. If I had to guess I would say that the timing is changing but that the ignition control unit is faster than the eye and compensates for it so it keeps firing right where it should.
