Re ignition: I reseated the wires, visually inspected the 12v input to the coil, and swapped the power stage. Actually the other day was fairly hot and arid (all things being relative). It was cold and rainy yesterday however.
The car seems to be running too smooth to be misfiring... but yeah, I can't get over that the fuel smell is from the ignition cutting out (as opposed to the mixture being too rich). The tach isn't doing anything weird which leads me to believe that the hall sensor is fine. I will go over the wires and such the next time I look at the car.
I'm thinking about the TPS. It would explain being unable to really rev the motor much. If it were stuck in an "you're idling" state, this would trigger the overrun cutoff above some arbitrary RPM, right?
Suffice to say the car is off the city streets, and thus not on hand to fiddle with, for now. I'd planned to just finish the semester and go back to look at the car in a few weeks. Knowing me, I'll go back this afternoon.
