Okay here is a list of the work that was done. This all began when I thought for sure I needed shocks. I am talking even going over a small bump feels like I have gone into a very deep pothole. Here goes:
12/04...SHOCKS were said to be fine BUT replaced and repaired HDlight WSH valve, delivery valve, Sway bar link, LF Ball joint, RT ball joint, Tire balance, Tire rotaion, toot belt, thermo kit, w/pump, serpentine belt, antifreeze, (2)rot/850/sol, R Pad, Harware mounting kit, rear shim, cal spacer, brake hose, frnt cal, e brk shoe, fr pads, rot vent. TOTAL = $2067.
Shortly after I had this repair... began getting these flat tires where the inside tread wore completely at first went through four the first started right after I got the repair, when I brought in for repair, the tires were like new. Of course I called the volvo mechanic back and he said it was a coincident than I must have run over something or maybe ran into a pothole blah blah blah. Not only was I getting these peculiar flats, the car still felt terrible. the work he did din not fix the problem I brought it in for at all. Total for replacing these tires was $380.
Now You asked if the car was in a major accident, according to carfax, no it was not. However fortunalty I was in a minor accident where someone went though a light and hit the front end ( of course the guy had no ins so it cost me 1000 to repair and the car still has body and minor structural damage. Anyway, that accident was bit of a blessing as BOTH the FRONT tires were down to the tread again on the inside. I feel fortunate that I did not have a blowout on the interstate with my baby in the car. Finially though someone figured out the reason I was getting the flats was the alignment was quite off. They suggested the volvo mechanic did not do something right when the put the tires back on... of course he denied anything was his fault. Anyway, so with the TWO MORE tires and alignment, it was another $300. By this time I took my car to another volvo mechnic who someone highly recommended. Of course he pointed out how the other volvo mechanic gouged us in cost of materials and labor, but he is the one that went on to say that in his opinion once the 850 gets to 120,000 all sorts of expensive oddball problems occur and have terrible front ends. His work cost me 300. SO in totoal NOT inclusing the accident was $3044.
I have to stress that the major problem I am having was occuring BEFORE the accident. It was the main reason I brought it in last december.
I am thinking of giving my old volvo mechanic a call. I would have before but he is 3 hours norht of where we live now...but it just may be worth it. He was awsom. He is the type of guy that truely loves to actually FIX cars. He just does volvos and saabs. He was never one to just replace something if he could fis it hisself. He was always into rebuilt and repairing parts rather than wasting them. He gave us a rebuilt motor for $400. And he always explained everything to us in detail. If only they could all be like him.
With the three volvo mechnics I ahve had since him... I just never know what to think... if they are gougin me.. or what. Two of them I have since hear have a reputaiotn for doing just that. The problem I have with my newest guy is he seems like a good enough guy, but he HATES the 850.
